Hi and welcome all.
July has been an interesting month with lots of visitors, and something happening every weekend. We have had visits from Andrew, Mairead & Niamh (twice,) Anne & Alex and then John, Anne & Peter. All the visitors have stayed with us at 'Caburn', as Mum is having her flat decorated. She also went away on her own holiday to Derbyshire for a week, coinciding with Anne & Alex's second week away. Anne & Alex stayed over while on their way to their holiday in Italy, on Mum's Birthday. For Mum's birthday we had a nice party put on by Josie and Brian. We all had a chance to catch up with them, and with Edgar & Norah who came along. Thanks to J & B. We have now got pictures of William Little in Canada, sent by Rob & Jill. Thanks, great pictures! Mum has had a message from Rosie saying that she has climbed Mont Blanc. We are jealous! That must be quite an experience. Well done Rosie!
Hope you are all well, keep working hard! David Hitchings 8 August 2002

Niamh is getting larger and more interested in the world. She is a happy child, as you can see.

When John, Anne & Peter came down to visit Mum, they had a day out at Wisley RHS Gardens. Celia went too, and this is now on our list of visits. I haven't been yet, but Celia says it has a great WOW factor. Pic below (and the water lilies at the top are by John.)

Mum's Birthday
Anne & Alex were down on the way to their Holiday in Italy. We all had a good day, with a visit to Wakehurst Place in the morning and lunch there. In the Afternoon, Josie had laid on a smashing tea with lashings of grub and goodies to eat. We all enjoyed it, especially Mum. Mum should, as she has had more practice than the rest of us, this being her 4th 21st.

On their second visit, we went with Andrew, Mairead and Niamh for a trip to the seaside at Brighton. This was Niamh's first trip to a beach and her first paddle in the sea. She was a bit surprised by how cold the water was, and shouted as soon as her feet went in. Anyway, she was snapped before she yelled. Above she is looking around taking in all the new sights.

At last - a little space left for David. I left you thinking about the Monarchy last month. Apart from the democratic arguments, there is the thought that a Monarchy requires that certain individuals are higher than others, and that implies that all men are not equal. Is this what the feeling against monarchy is about? If so, it is the same as the 'Communist' argument, that all should be the same and have the same opportunities. Although this is a logical case, don't forget that we are all humans and are not perfect in our desires and thinking. Many who complain about others being better off than themselves will buy a lottery ticket or do the football pools. Why? Not to make themselves equal! The same case applies in the 'class' system which supports the Monarchy. We may not like to see people 'higher' than us, but would we like to be 'further up?' I think that what we have in the UK is a good system, and it is not a bad thing to keep asking questions about whether improvements can be made. This keeps the whole thing live, active and strong. Bye for now - another hobby horse next time. David Hitchings.
