Hi All, we are back to a normal Family News e-page for June. I thought that it would be a quiet month, but it's all happening still! Iain and Zoë returned from a holiday in Greece and announced their engagement, as reported in the last e-pages. Congratulations! They came down to my Mum's, with Anne & Alec and we had a meal to celebrate. We also had the opportunity to look at their pictures from their holiday in Greece. See the pic below of us all at Mum's . Mum went for a short holiday with Edgar and Norah to their caravan in the new forest, had a nice break, although it got a bit cold at night. The Leicester contingent of the Hitchings family had birthdays, Peter's on 14th June and Anne's 50th on the 16th. A great party was held at John & Anne's on the weekend of 16th/17th and we all attended - more pic's below. I had a visit to one of our sites in Glasgow and as it was an overnight stay, I was able to go into the City to see John Davidson, who has just moved into a flat there. Nice flat - John has now graduated and we have pics of his graduation below. (For those west of the Atlantic - Graduation means end of education, after taking your degree.) John is looking for work in Glasgow. Rosie has also graduated - more pics. She will be working in the library at Edinburgh University for the next year. I had to visit one of our sites, not unusual, but this was on a Sunday. This filled the weekend between Anne's Party and the motor racing. The last weekend of June, we went again to John & Anne's for motor racing - well, watching it really. Celia went with Anne to see the sights of Leicester. While we were in Groby (Leicester,) we went to see Jenny's House. Really nice and cozy - well done in getting it all sorted out. Dave Hitchings 29 July 2001 Our holiday and Katie's Party in next month's pages - out soon

Message From Peter Corbyn That is a really nice and appropriate tribute to Grandma Corbyn. She will be missed - even over here. A strange thing happened the day Dad called to let me know the news. Mary-Anne and I are expecting our first child in early October. We first saw an ultrasound of our baby a few weeks ago - Dad called two hours later with the sad news. Kind of an odd day...so here is our announcement: Peter and Mary-Anne Corbyn are pleased to announce that we will be bringing a little one into the world, due October 2, 2001. We even have the names picked out - our boy will be called Ian Peter Corbyn, or our daughter will be called Paige Elizabeth. We don't know at this point if it is a boy or girl, nor do we care, as long as it is healthy. Mary-Anne's son, Andrew (8), is really looking forward having a younger sibling! :) Peter

Message From John Davidson Hi everyone - hope you are all well and enjoying the summer time! I'm searching for work in Scotland still, and I've got myself a new car which is less offensive than the last one (perhaps I'm getting old too)! I've just launched my new website, so go to www.BL6.co.uk to see all sorts of stuff, from my graduation to Bolton Wanderers pages, bits of work I've done, and to virtually visit places in Scotland! I'll be adding bits each month from now on and I've nicked this Family Page idea from David so you can see what I've been up to. My e-mail address is now john@BL6.co.uk so it's probably best to change it if you've still got the old one, although that still works for now. Hope you all enjoy the site and I'll see you all soon hopefully. Take care, John Davidson.

How to improve the inside of a Jag ? Perhaps not, but you can see why.
These 2 pics are from the first day's visit to Donnington, looking at all the activities behind the scenes.
We went back the next day to watch the racing, so a couple more pics next month.

Comment
Well, here is a lot of space for a moan. There are lots of speed cameras being installed in the UK. Fair enough on the surface, we all want safer roads. The implication is that if everyone slows down this will reduce accidents. From what I see, the cause of accidents is bad driving. We all see the bad drivers as we go about the roads, and the speed cameras will not make any difference, as many of them drive slowly and badly. What is needed is better training for drivers and policing to concentrate on driving standards in all areas. I suggest that parking is looked at afresh. In Haywards Heath, you can park anywhere at any time, there do not seem to be any traffic wardens, and the police are not interested. Some who work in our office park all day every day in the half-hour limit outside the office and very rarely get booked. How can there be good driving standards if there is no interest in what people do with their cars when they stop driving them? This months thought is that to improve driving, start with improving how people park. Get them to think quality in all aspects of roadcraft. Dave H
